Disclaimer: I do not own any $magic projects and Im relatively new to L2 trading, so take what I say with a grain of salt.
Basics:
Play to earn, 30k collection on Arbitrum, free mint (all WL), mint is Wed March 2nd 9am PST (48 hours duration), cool art IMO (crazy 1/1s and collab art too), doxed team.
Whitepaper still in the works (doodles read it, over 60+ pages atm).
Collabs are popping off. Their community aims to be universal – as a part of other collections. Already have 40+ collabs right now (doodles, neotokyo, littles, llamas, $magic projects etc etc), and in an AMA they mentioned their team is over 30 people working on the project (none of whom are currently being paid – but Im sure properly incentivized).
You will need 5 $Magic to be able to mint (just hold, you don’t pay it). The project is based on Treasure DAO ecosystem on Arbitrum (L2, low gas, same macro eth benefits).
The upcoming mint is for season 1: 30k cocoons that eventually grow into BattleFlys. This growth process is interactive – You get a choice as to how you want to level it up, and there is an unknown strategy behind it. You’ll be able to lvl up traits (attack, balance, defense, etc) – which will all matter for when you’re ready to Duel other Battleflys in the Battle Dome (arena). They compared its depth to StreetFighter (which I haven’t played). You can entirely decide when you want to take it to the arena – whether 1 day in or 4 weeks in.
Arena/Duel/PVP Battledome: You challenge someone and wager $Magic. I think this is utility is novel (DYOR), where you have an interactive P2E that you can challenge other people for actual money. If you win, you get 1.25% of the opponent’s staked $Magic (and the same if you lose). If you lose, however, you also gain $Battlefly token which can be used to further upgrade your Battlefly ($Battlefly is not tradeable on exchange markets – no monetary value). So, if you suck at first, you can still improve (but will be paying for it in $Magic indirectly).
In an AMA, the founders described the predicted “winners” of the game as anyone placing in the top 75% as the people who will be making $Magic or breaking even, and again, bottom 25% gain $battlefly to lvl up further.
In a medium article though, they describe ROI as the following (So I dont think anybody truly knows how the performance-based ROI will pan out):
Season 2 and 3 (dates tba)
Partnered NFTs having BattleFly tournaments in the future in community owned combat arenas. Doodles will have their own custom-designed arena, with their custom music, animations, fighters etc. They’ll also have their own BattleFly Doodle reps (community chosen based on skill), and they’ve already been in talks with having tournaments with the Littles (with their own customization) and other partnered projects. This is all just talk at this point, but dozens of the 40+ collabs already have 1/1 Designed Battleflys for the upcoming drop, and IMO this would be a pretty dope addition to the NFT space rather than having Halo tournaments between Project X and Project Y.
Also talk of breeding in season 2 and a BattleFly marketplace
Season 3: something about Armies of Battleflys - DAOs, guilds, factions etc teaming up other armies to fight other armies. Success/feasibility depends on season 1 - Too far away out to comment on.
